hope you would understand. We do not charge you if we call out
                        sick!!

More than just playing:
While 90% of lesson time is dedicated to playing, Steve and Ingrid also believe in giving students the chance to become well-educated all-around musicians. Humans are not music boxes trained to accurately reproduce notes. Music is omnipresent and defines our lives in a direct, meaningful way. Because of this, some lesson time--especially make-up time--may be devoted to listening to and discussing music--technically, historically, stylistically. We teach you to understand and talk about what you're hearing. We won't make you a music snob (unless you want to be one); we will simply help you become musically educated. This improves your playing, your enjoyment in listening, and even your life as you interact with others on a daily basis. For students in high school, this can be a tremendous advantage if they plan on studying music in college. We also offer extra instruction in ear-training, sight-reading and sight-singing, and theory/composition for those who are interested. Our students know what they're doing, and they know how to talk about it!
Supplies:
Supplies as a general rule, we use the John W. Schaum method books, but we supplement heavily with material from our own library (as well as whatever you have hiding in your old piano bench). You will not spend a fortune on books with us!

Depending on your goals, we will guide you to choosing your own material and we frequently supplement with material we write specifically for you, depending on your needs and aptitude. We will occasionally ask you to bring in recordings of music you like to teach you to listen closely and learn the style/nuance involved.

Basic Supplies:
   -- Book of manuscript paper
       (lined staff paper)
-- 3-ring binder for loose music
   -- Pencils
   -- Trimmed nails!
   -- Books/sheet music you've
      previously learned from or that
      you've purchased on your own.
